A Poem a day – 30 December

A poem to read — audio included if you prefer.

I am here

The year comes to its end quietly,
not as a conclusion,
but as a pause where looking back becomes possible.

Twelve months have passed through weather and rooms,
through ordinary days and difficult ones,
through moments that stayed
and moments that barely announced themselves.

Some parts of this year asked a great deal.
They did not arrive gently,
and they did not leave quickly.

There were times when moving forward
meant simply continuing,
without clarity,
without reassurance.

And still —
here you are.

Not unchanged,
but present.
Able to stand at the edge of this year
and see it through.

There is something worth acknowledging in that.
Not triumph.
Not perfection.
Just endurance.

The year offered its teaching
in many forms —
through effort,
through waiting,
through loss,
through quiet persistence.

Even the hardest moments
carried something forward,
whether recognised at the time or not.

Gratitude does not erase what was difficult.
It sits alongside it.
A steady recognition
that being here now
matters.

To see the end of this year
is not something to take lightly.
It means you stayed.
You lived the days that arrived.
You allowed time to move through you.

And as this year closes,
there is space to appreciate that simple fact:

You are here.
You made it to the end.
And that, in itself,
is worth honouring.
