What the Mind Meant to Say

I came late to the garden—
the wind had already shaken the birch leaves down,
and the grasses bowed their golden heads
as if remembering something sorrowful
and kind.

The stone by the path was warm still,
and I sat,
not to solve anything,
not to ask for clarity,
but simply to be a witness
to the way the world goes on
no matter how heavy my thoughts.

A sparrow flung its song into the air
as if joy were weightless
and belonging was not a prize to be earned
but a birthright
you could return to
with every breath.

The mind,
with its clever reels and riddles,
had meant to interrupt.
But today it softened—
and I saw what it had been trying to say all along:
I am not your enemy.
I am only trying to keep you safe.

Then silence opened like a gate,
and I stepped through
with nothing in my hands
but the feel of the earth beneath me,
and a quiet promise
to remember the light.
